State Budget Crisis and Taxes

With the current budget being a total mess, why does California not explore other revenues? My vote would be to start taxing churches. How can we get this to become a proposition for the next election?

Churches are tax exempt entities as part of the seperation of church and state, they are not allowed to publicly endorse a particular candidate or other political issue without running afoul of the government and running the risk of losing tax-exempt status. The facts are this our government must get spending under control, I don't have credit cards so I can not spend beyond the money that I make and neither should our government. They need to understand that it is not thier money but yours and mine, so we, as concerned citizens need to be raising our voices and tell our legislators that they need to be responsible with our money. To raise extra capital we should be slant drilling the oil that is off our coast and collecting the taxes on this oil. It is safe, clean and plentiful.
