Say NO to New Taxes - Stop Proposition 1A
Proposition 1A will raise taxes on California families more than $1,000 per year, doubling the severe impact of this year's tax increases already enacted by the State Legislature. Proposition 1A will also mean an increase in our sales tax, car tax, income tax, while at the same time reducing the tax deductions for dependent children. How will this help California families?
Even the nonpartisan California Legislative Analyst's Office has found that Proposition 1A will result in a tax increase for the people of California. Measure Results in Tax Increases. If this measure is approved, several tax increases passed as part of the February 2009 budget package would be extended by one to two years. State tax revenues would increase by about $16 billion from 2010-11 through 2012-13.
And now, a diverse and bipartisan collection of organizations are joining forces to defeat Proposition 1A. The 700,000-member California SEIU, the state's largest public employees union, has joined with the California Faculty Association and the California Federation of Teachers to oppose Proposition 1A. They call it "fatally flawed."
